EP.1 / What to do when you feel BLOCKED
David Harborne | Redesign you Life | 2 min read | 20th february 2023
I was hungry and had the desire to eat something tasty as well as find somewhere to write this blog in peace and quiet.
I set out on my journey to a very famous place in Vietnam – a café where an amazing fashion show took place and has been a popular destination ever since for locals. I have been to this place many times outside of the rainy season.
So, I set out on my motorbike.
I was aware there had been heavy rain the day before and was expecting there to be some flooding on the roads, but not to the extent I experienced. I got to a point in the road where the flooding was so bad, it was blocked, so I decide to sit and consider how I could proceed.
I must admit I enjoyed sitting and watching the process of the cows being moved to higher ground to protect them and their farmer’s livelihood. An unexpected moment I wouldn’t have come across had it not been for the flooding.
I watched the flooded road ahead and waited to see how the locals dealt with the situation. Some were brave and drove through the deep water and others tried but their motorbikes stopped so they had to push their motorbikes through the deep water. I was neither brave or willing to take the chance of my motorbike breaking down as it is rented and I didn’t want to cause any damage to the engine. Eventually I considered another route I could take to the cafe.
I turned around and drove in another direction. It was also flooded, so I stopped and looked at the road ahead. “Should I give up?” “Should I just go another day?” were some of the thoughts going through my head. However, I have been brought up to never give up and I decided to explore other ways to get to my destination. It took longer than I had originally planned and it meant I had to travel down some very uneven concrete paths and go through some shallow water, but I wanted to get to my destination as it is a great place to eat and relax and write.
In the end, I found my way and it was truly worth the effort getting there.

🔺What have I learned?
Sometimes the way to what we want is blocked or not straightforward.
For some, the effort is too much, too difficult, or the why is not big enough.
My advice? I would encourage anyone wishing to transform their life never to give up, but to find a way, however bumpy, difficult or time-consuming it might be.
🔺What are my next steps?
My next step is to find a way to work towards my why. If I find it too hard to get through on the first go, I will temporarily take a step back and find someone who can help.
