EP.5 / What is a personal purpose statement?

David Harborne | Redesign you Life | 2 min read | 10th April 2023

A personal purpose statement is a written statement that defines…

your reason for being, your unique contribution to the world, and your values and passions. It is a statement that encapsulates your life's purpose and the legacy you want to leave behind.

A personal purpose statement is different from a personal vision statement.

A personal vision statement focuses on where you see yourself in the future. A purpose statement is more about who you are, what you stand for, and why you exist. It can guide your decisions, actions, and priorities, and help you align your life with your deepest values and purpose.

Crafting a personal prupose statement

Crafting a personal purpose statement can be a reflective and introspective process that requires you to examine your values, strengths, passions, and life experiences. Your personal purpose statement should be concise, memorable, and meaningful to you, and it should inspire you to take action towards your goals and aspirations.

🔺Take home message/insight

So what is your personal purpose statement? Is this something you have every stopped to think about? And if you have, have you checked in with it lately? Is it still true to the current version of yourself?

There are many ways to begin crafting your personal statement. You can simply sit down with a piece of paper and begin to ask yourself, what are my values? What life experiences have impacted me and why? Where do my strengths lie? It may also be useful to have a conversation with a friend or loved one, someone who knows you and you trust deeply. Having this outside perspective can shine the light on aspects you may have glossed over or not given any importance to.

I would love to know your results, you can share them with me at www.davidharborne.com
